Is it hard to learn to play guitar rockabilly/ country style.?
Hi, ive being playing the guitar for almost a year now (mainly chords) and ive just watched Walk The Line about Johnny Cash and i really want to learn to play like him and the other guitarest in the band. How hard do you think this will be and how long do you think it would take to get compitent at it. Also any tips on WHAT to practise? thanks a bunch
Alot of country and johnny cash style of playing is just using fingerpicking. One of the first fingerpicking style’s people use is called the “Travis Pick”. In this video you see how to do the full picking. But you can also just pluck the first bass note, then strum, and then pluck the second bass note, and strum.
Once you get that you can move on to more fingerpicking styles and strum patterns. Just listen to the songs you wanna play and try to mimic them. Alot of times you might not be able to play them exact because they might be advanced, but you can always find ways to ‘cheat’ it a little or just come up with something orginial yourself.
Also TAB’s also come in handy here and will help you figure out fingerpicking styles on songs.
